Kiss Mommy Goodbye is a major new novel from bestselling author Nicholas Walker. Peter Webb is a rock superstar living in California who has everything, but his failing relationships with women leave him hankering back to when he was a simple schoolteacher and on a whim he adopts a fourteen year old girl. Getz, was removed from abusive parents and placed with foster parents and when the story starts it has just been discovered that the foster Father has been sexually assaulting her for the last three years. She has become a highly disturbed young girl who cannot stand any male touching her in any way, she steals cars and attacks people and completely distrusts Peter’s motives in fostering her. Her only passion is the saxophone which has become a surrogate parent and she is mentally unable to be parted from it for even a second. The story goes on to relate how their music brings them closer and Getz becomes his real daughter in the most important sense of the word. Peter is then presented very suddenly with twin girl orphans from Iraq, who everybody resents, including Getz but it’s only with her help that they finally fit into the family. Peter goes on to adopt Butch, a crippled refugee from Bosnia, then the two sons of an Afghan suicide bomber, an American girl who is total drug addict, then finally his own daughter comes to live with them when Peter’s ex-wife dies. The story is one of strong but very different characters who all have severe problems but who all come to support one another through the many family crises. They have to cope with the suicide attempt of Getz, the drug addiction of Ally, the problems with the police and the school, the death of one of the children and the pressures of the press and rock concerts and Oscar ceremonies. The characters are introduced through the medium of a television program which interviews the children of famous parents. Each character is first spoken to by the interviewer before being inserted into the main storyline. It is not a case of telling each individual’s story, more how their acceptance into the family effects everybody’s life. This heart-warming story is full of both humor and sadness with stunning insights into the normalcy of the lives of the super-rich. The follow up is called: Kiss Mommy Goodbye: Vegas! Vegas! Vegas!

Life in the academy is the stuff of legends, dreams, rumors, and the occasional scandal, whether the school itself is ivy-clad or not. With a knowing wink to the sometimes-stuffy reality of the academic world, Elliott M. Abramson invites readers into a fictional universe inspired by his long career as a professor of law. He tells colorful stories about how life really is in academia and introduces readers to situations and people ranging from the banal to otherwise. Written to honor, inspire, and amuse both teachers and students alike, these are glimpses into a different kind of life. At the core is a look into the complicated relationships shared by educators and their students and how each learns from and teaches the other. Among the many lessons learned on both sides are the things one might expect in the world of higher education politics, drama, and more as well as a few unexpected revelations along the way. Abramson's stories celebrate the adventures of life, as young people discover who they are, and as old teachers do their best to shape their young charges.
But, today, there is the added attraction of a mom loading her basket, in which sits
a two to three year old kid, with good, ... So, then, it comes, one of my all—time

Based on his widely read columns for The New Yorker, Ian Frazier's uproarious first novel, The Cursing Mommy's Book of Days, centers on a profoundly memorable character, sprung from an impressively fertile imagination. Structured as a daybook of sorts, the book follows the Cursing Mommy—beleaguered wife of Larry and mother of two boys, twelve and eight—as she tries (more or less) valiantly to offer tips on how to do various tasks around the home, only to end up on the ground, cursing, surrounded by broken glass. Her voice is somewhere between Phyllis Diller's and Sylvia Plath's: a hilariously desperate housewife with a taste for swearing and large glasses of red wine, who speaks to the frustrations of everyday life. Frazier has demonstrated an astonishing ability to operate with ease in a variety of registers: from On the Rez, an investigation into the lives of modern day Oglala Sioux written with a mix of humor, compassion, and imagination, to Dating Your Mom, a sidesplitting collection of humorous essays that imagines, among other things, how and why you might begin a romance with your mother. Here, Frazier tackles another genre with his usual grace and aplomb, as well as an extra helping of his trademark wicked wit. The Cursing Mommy's failures and weaknesses are our own—and Frazier gives them a loving, satirical spin that is uniquely his own.

When a deep-seated memory suddenly surfaces, Elizabeth Burns becomes obsessed with the long-ago disappearance of her childhood friend April Cassidy. Driven to investigate, Elizabeth discovers a thirty-five-year-old newspaper article revealing the details that had been hidden from her as a child—shocking revelations about April's mother, Adele. Elizabeth, now herself a mother, seeks out anyone who might help piece together the final months, days, and hours of this troubled woman's life, but the answers yield only more questions. And those questions lead back to Elizabeth's own life: her own compromised marriage, her increasing self-doubt and dissatisfaction, and finally, a fearsome reckoning with what it means to be a wife and mother.
Is there, Mommy? Adele, who was busy loading the dishwasher, pretended she
hadn't heard. Is there, Mommy? she repeated, adding, I mean, you can't kill
someone softly, right? Because if you kill them, then they're dead. At which point
